Nike/ Victoria

The pediment of SF Landmark #167, originally the Metropolitan Life Building and now The Ritz-Carlton, is full of figures which may or not be representations of deities. Our best guess here is Nike because of the wings and the laurel crown.

Native Sons' Monument
(1897)
Originally named the Admission Day Fountain

Artist: Douglas Tilden (1860-1935)
Owner: City of San Francisco

We're the first to admit we're not entirely sure that this is Nike who crowns the Native Sons' Monument in SF. However, we couldn't help but notice that she has a laurel wreath as well as wings, not unlike Nike. Possibly she is the same 'angel' as in the preceding photo. The monument commemorates California's admission into the Union and was modeled after the sculptor's wife. The inscription reads: Sep IX MDCCCL.
